On January 14th 2020, a group of tourism organisations and individuals signed Tourism Declares — uniting the travel industry in declaring a climate emergency and acting accordingly.
At Hostfully, our mission is to help every guest and manager make the most of every stay, and that’s because we believe that travel has the power to do good. Travel can help develop and support local communities, keep cultures alive and well, and educate people how to be better humans.
Travel, however, paradoxically is also contributing to the climate crisis. CO2 emissions from flights and tourism are having a very negative effect on our world.
Joining with our Tourism Declares brethren, we are signing this declaration and agree to these five Tourism Declares commitments:
- Develop a ‘Climate Emergency Plan’
- Share our commitment and progress publicly
- Cut our carbon emissions in line with IPCC advice (stating the need to cut global carbon emissions to 55% below 2017 levels by 2030 to keep the planet within 1.5 degrees of warming).
- Work with others in the travel industry
- Advocate for change throughout the travel industry
We also promise to be as open and transparent about our process as possible, and we will make consistent updates via our social media channels, emails and website.

Hostfully’s Climate Action Plan – 3 Steps for 2021
Step 1: Become Carbon Neutral
As a starting point, we are pleased to announce that starting January 2021, Hostfully is a carbon-neutral organization. This means that we are paying for carbon offsets for each of our employees and the resources that they consume. It’s a small but necessary first step for us and you can track our progress here: https://ecologi.com/hostfully
Step 2: Spread the word through our products
At Hostfully we are lucky to have more than 25,000 properties in 80 countries using our software products. We are developing ways that we can encourage these customers to participate in eco-friendly programs such as buying carbon offsets for their guests or inviting their guests to pay for local or global eco-friendly initiatives. Stay tuned on the specifics which we will announce in Q2 of 2021.
Step 3: Turn on the marketing engine
You’ll be hearing more from us about what vacation rental companies can do in general to help stop climate change. And we can also do more to help our customers be loud and proud about their efforts, by making it easy to showcase what they’re doing to potential and current customers.
