It all started when two vacation rental managers asked themselves “why is managing vacation rentals so hard?” A simple question that sparked the mission to create software and solve that challenge.
In 2015, David Jacoby and Stephan Osmont were independently running short term rental businesses as side hustles and hosting guests every day, while working at startups. They each asked themselves “Why is this so hard? How can this be easier and better for me and my guests?” At the same time, Margot Schmorak was soul searching after a decade-long career in technology. Her goal was to find a leadership role in a company where she could foster world-class culture.
So what did we do? We started building. Stephan built a platform on his own (the Property Management Platform), rapidly forming a partnership with Airbnb and several leading property management companies. David and Margot, after meeting at their kids’ preschool in San Francisco, took a different approach, building a platform to enable the guest experience (Hostfully Guidebooks).
On a sunny summer afternoon, the two teams met at Flywheel coffee shop in San Francisco, and discovered their mutual passion for the industry, spirit of innovation, and the power of platform products. A few months later, the two teams decided to take it to the next level, merging their two companies together and becoming Hostfully.
We’re on a mission to help vacation rental hosts and their guests make the most of every stay. We believe that local travel experiences make the world a better place. We want to make those experiences easier and more joyful for everyone.
We believe the best travel memories unfold when guests get closer to local people and experiences. When that happens, travelers enjoy cross-cultural moments, renew perspectives on their own lives, and forge connections with people they never would have met otherwise. This fundamentally makes the world a better place.
We’re starting with vacation rental travel. Hostfully products give property managers the tools they need to automate operations, reach more customers, and deliver a 5-star guest experience. Hostfully empowers property managers to manage their businesses at scale with an affordable, easy-to-use platform solution.
Our company culture helps us deliver the best products and services. From how we hire, to how we listen to and treat our customers. It all stems from our belief that “doing the right thing” matters.
We care deeply about maintaining a culture that welcomes everyone because we know it helps us understand our customers better. This includes caretakers, parents, grandparents, people with disabilities, people of color, LGBTQIA+, first-generation college students, and more. When we go the extra mile, our employees extend that positivity to our customers.
We exist because of our customers. Instead of telling our customers about our products, we empower them to tell us what they need.
This means that we are paying for carbon offsets for each of our employees and the resources that they consume. It’s a small but necessary first step for us and you can track our progress here.
We encourage our users in over 80 countries to participate in eco-friendly programs such as buying carbon offsets for their guests, or inviting their guests to participate in local or global eco-friendly initiatives.
We help vacation rental companies know what they can do to stop climate change. We also help our customers be loud and proud about their efforts, by making it easy to showcase what they’re doing in their digital guidebooks and customer messaging.
Hostfully is a proud participant of Tourism Declares, a global community of 279 organizations, companies and professionals working together to plan a better future for tourism. We have also partnered with Sustonica and EnviroRental, two organizations that are passionate about helping vacation rentals achieve sustainability.
With these efforts and partnerships, we aim to become a beacon for other companies in our industry to help make meaningful change in the way they operate, in how they treat employees, in what their environmental footprint is, and in how they do good for their communities.
Each month, through CNaught, we purchase a diversified portfolio of high-quality carbon credits that are designed to maximize impact, mitigate risk, and foster innovation. A portfolio approach to carbon credits is recommended by the World Economic Forum, and the CNaught portfolio embodies the science-based best practices laid out in Oxford’s Principles for Carbon Offsetting.
At Hostfully, we celebrate diversity because we know that it sparks the brightest and most creative ideas. We love working with people from all around the world — customers, employees, and partners.
With open doors, we cherish people, regardless of age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, or perspective. Even if you think Hamilton is overrated.
